Production:av at Greenbelt 2006

Production:av spent the August bank holiday providing services across the Greenbelt festival at Cheltenham racecourse. Two of the main jobs undertaken were the provision of a CAT5 link from the main stage to the parade ring, and the audio visual equipment for the Performance Cafe.

Cat5 Link.

With changes in the layout of the site and an increase in the festivals capacity, a link between the main stage and the Parade ring meant that a link was required to relay the Sunday morning communion service. Over 400 metres of CAT5 was deployed to provide a composite video and stereo audio link. The cabling was installed and tested two days prior to the Sunday morning, allowing time for snagging had it been needed. Using Extron CAT5 transmitters and receivers from hirestock, "The sound from the Main stage was good and the vision on the big screen was very clear. The service progressed and the sound and vision kept the the audience with a better view of what was going on, than being in the back row at the main stage." (Source- greenbelt website). With no signal loss or noise introduced over the 400+ metres of cabling, minimal processing was required. "Extron give the rated distance of the transmitters as 300 metres for Composite video, so I was a little bit nervous that we'd be overdriving the feed, or not have a poor signal by the time it reached the parade ring, but through testing and prudent installation we knew it would be ok." said Pete McCrea (Production:av MD). Canegreen provided the audio and Cutting Edge Productions the video feed.

Performance Cafe.

In the words of Quench's front Jamie Hill, the Performance Cafe had indeed eaten all the pies at this years Greenbelt. This was no bad thing though as it gave Christian Aid the ability to promote their current campaigns to a large audience. Production:av provided large projection and plasma screens to relay a mix of images and video footage over the period of the festival. The screens were fed via a Kramer VP723 from Production:av's extensive hire stocks whilst the plasma screens were fed with a straight composite video feed. Careful specification of the equipment meant that sources could be switched and sent to the appropriate screens as needed. The work by Christian Aid was judged a success, with the provision of the high quality AV from Production:av kit assisting in their campaign.
