MicroTiles for Production AV

May 6, 2010 by petermccrea
Filed under Hire News, News Stories

Production AV is proud to be the first UK rental house to take the new high resolution, modular, LED driven digital canvas from Christie Digital into it’s hire stock.

The MicroTiles offer a unique product for exhibition designers and live event producers, enabling you to create bespoke displays in new shapes that give stunning resolution and close up detail with a very wide colour gamut that can give the precise colour that is required by the client’s brand guidelines. It’s ability to be built into stripes or blocks enables digital signage to go beyond the traditional flat screen display helping to engage with increasingly saturated viewers.

Each 16″ wide by 12″ high module is only 10″ deep, and requires 2″ of cooling space to the rear. The native display resolution is a 720×540 pixels, so it is possible to create above HD resolution displays of multiple shapes, enabling your client to get face to face with the image and not loose image quality. Production AV have taken a quantity of MicroTiles, ECU’s, rigging hardware and ancillary items into stock, along with Onelan NTB5505 Digital Signage player for demo and rental use as well as Apple Mac Mini computers for playing back content on discrete MicroTiles Displays.

For more information on the MicroTiles please have a look at the MicroTiles website. Production AV is also now a Christie Digital Partner, which enables collaboration with Christie, as well as access to extensive facilities of the EMEA regional HQ in Wokingham.

If you have a project in mind for the MicroTiles, then please do get in touch with us either by Local Rate telephone on 0845 37 000 24 or by email to info@productionav.co.uk We are able to offer both rental and sales solutions for fixed installation, Digital Signage and Architectural environments.

BBC Global

BBC Global is the umbrella name for the worldwide services that are part of the BBC. Awards were handed out across over 10 catagories to winners from around the globe in recognition of their work in bringing impartial news and services to the public, in innovative and traditional ways.

Held in the BAFTA’s Princess Anne Theatre, the awards ceremony utilised the in house equipment provided by BAFTA, as well as external contractors such as Production:av to ensure the event went without a hitch.

Production:av – Digital Glue

Production:av were contracted to ensure that the range of sources to be displayed could be mixed and laid out on screen as wished, and the differing formats seamlessly mixed. Broadcast cameras, Keynote Presentations had to be scaled and mixed, maintaining their integrity before being fed to the in house Barco Digital Cinema projector at Full HD resolution.

Production:av also provided and operator to set up and control the system for the event, as well as running the Graphics sources to ensure that the correct keynote slides were shown at the right time.

The clients experience of dealing with Production:av was described by Richard Jack the producer:

Throughout the whole process you

have been really helpful: going way beyond what was expected to help us produce the high

standard we needed for the show. Your knowledge of the products was impressive; your

operational skills were first rate; your professionalism was much appreciated. But above all,

the ‘can-do’ attitude of production:av was refreshing.

I do hope we can work together again.

We hope to work again soon with Richard and his team, and really enjoyed the experience.

AXA Insurance Awards

February 4, 2010 by andrewdcook

With prize giving for their best achieving salesperson to their tongue in cheek take on the X-Factor, aptly named The AXA Factor, the AXA Awards was a fun and light hearted review of the year – a chance for the team at AXA to let their hair down and enjoy themselves for the evening.

However, this approach was certainly not taken from our perspective. Providing the full production, from set to sound it was imperative every detail was taken care of for such an esteemed client.

Production:av was pleased to continue our great relationship with marketing communications agency Dair* to achieve this event.

Our high definition projection provided an excellent backdrop for the presentations and our d&b Audiotechnik system with digital control was employed ensuring the audio was discreet, tidy and to the highest standard. The set design was carried out in house. White PVC was chosen in order for pixel lines and moving heads to be used to colour the set, which gave fantastic results.

The Live Events co-ordinator at Dair* commented:

Both the AXA events team and the key event stakeholders mentioned what a great team we had on site, polite, helpful, professional, ready to help being just a few of the words used.

The event was a success from start to finish with everybody being exceptionally pleased with all aspects of the show. We look forward to operating on future events with this client.

January 24, 2010 by petermccrea

For the second year running Production:av have provided high quality AV services to the Newfrontiers group of churches. The London and Home Counties church groups met again at the Butlins Holiday Park in Bognor Regis over the weekend of 22nd to 24th of January.

Production:av provided experienced crew and technicians to deliver a switching system for the main venue bringing the Camera images, songwords and powerpoint together and feeding them to the house installed screens, and also to other venues across the site.

There were also several youth venues which required additional equipment over the installed house systems that Butlins provided. Production:av provided Video Systems comprising of Seamless Switchers for Kramer, Extron and Barco, sending signals to projection equipment from Christie and Plasma screens from Panasonic and NEC, as well as sound equipment from D&B Audiotechnik and Allen and Heath.

Production:av also provided a site wide radio system to enable the Executive Management Team and youth teams to communicate effectively.

The event was a success, with the technical systems performing as required delivering clean signals across the site. Our thanks go to the Organising team for involving Production:av for the second year of the event, and look forward to being involved next year.

Production:av launches The Capsule

January 13, 2010 by andrewdcook

UK – Production:av are proud to announce the launch of the Capsule to the events, exhibitions, and media industries.

The Capsule is a patented hardware and software solution allowing audio recordings to be transferred to multiple USB keys in real time as the event is happening.  The keys can also be pre-loaded with company advertising, presentations, graphics, and web-based links.

This solution allows delegates and audiences to walk away from an event or briefing with a USB key containing the recordings and media of the event they have just attended minutes earlier.  The USB key can then be plugged in to a computer, a welcome screen loads, and all recordings and information are available for viewing.

Andy Cook, business development manager comments, “we are proud to be launching this communication tool on a global scale and we will be offering a bespoke solution for clients, both in terms of rental of hardware, but also in creating the welcome screen and user interface which will can individually designed for clients.  This product has many applications including media briefings, music events, and corporate conferences”.

Production:av have a growing product and solutions portfolio, and have plans for further expansion in this area.  “Production:av aims to provide technology to clients allowing them to enhance their communication with customers, suppliers, and their industry”.

Keswick Convention 2009

September 10, 2009 by petermccrea

2009 saw the Keswick Convention, running since 1875, held at the heart of the lake district within the convention centre in Keswick Cumbria. Working directly for the convention, Production:av was tasked with lifting the standards of the main screens and switching systems that are utilised for the three duration of the event.

Previous the convention has employed a system that has grown with the convention as AV technology has emerged. This had served it’s purpose well, but it was felt that to keep with the expectations of a modern conference go-ers, improvements could be made.

The key aim was to ensure that the main screens flanking the side of the stage could be seen in all light conditions. The convention utilise their own large marquee that is erected on site every year. Being manufactured from a white material, it lets high levels of ambient light into the venue during the day time sessions.

To combat this Production:av approached the problem from two angles – the projection, secondly the signal aspects.

Firstly high brightness 10,000 lumen projectors were supplied in the form of Barco CLM R10+ projectors, flown from the lighting truss firing onto 8′x6′ front projection screens.

Secondliy a digital signal path was employed from many of the sources through the supplied Barco Screen Pro II switcher and fed via fibre onto the projectors as a DVI signal. This meant that there were no losses within the signal path, and a minimum of processing. A mix of the cameras was provided by Cutting Edge Uk as an SD SDI feed, which was then keyed over with song words from a PC, at the native DVI Resolution. Production:av also supplied a technician to provide support and operation during the event as well as crew to rig and de-rig.

The event was a success, with the only complaints being that the screens were too bright!
