Screen Management System

UK Spring Tour – Seasick Steve

04/05/2017 by petermccrea

Seasick Steve LED Screen Tour Banner

Production AV were thrilled to continue our partnership with Opium Arts on behalf of Seasick Steve in providing a complete video solution for his UK Spring Tour that saw him perform to sellout crowds in Manchester, Edinburgh, Newcastle and Leeds. The spring tour followed on from his performance at Wembley Arena in October 2016. Production AV also supplied the touring video solution to the Spring 2015 tour.

Seasick Steve Touring LED Screen and Video Solution

Seasick Steve LED Screen Spring Tour 1

Using our Desay 6.25mm Indoor/Outdoor LED Panels, we provided a 4.8m x 2.7m LED Screen that was flown at each of the venues on the tour – the light weight of the screen meant that it was easy to fit into some of the smaller venues. A pair of Nova MCTRL660 Processors were used to manage the data being fed to the screen with one acting as a fail safe hot back up to the main processor. Scaling for the screen was handled by our Barco ImagePRO Dual II which took signal from our Sony PMW-EX3 HD Video Camera operated at all the shows by technician Pete McCrea.

Our aim was to provide a video solution which could be setup and operated by a single technician. The complete package took up a small footprint in the truck and the screen system and processing was prepared to make sure the rig times were quick – load in to rig complete was under 1 hour.

Seasick Steve LED Screen Spring Tour 2

As always, it is a pleasure to work alongside Steve and the team and we’d like to thank them for the continued faith shown in us as their video supplier. We’re looking forward to seeing what plans Steve has for the rest of 2017!

Production AV were back out once again this time to ExCeL London providing the LED screen for London Studio Centre’s exhibition stand at the Move It 2017 Dance Show. Contact us soon so your stand can be taken to the next level at Move It 2018! With over 24,000 dancers attending the three day event, Production AV were excited to be providing the video solution for one of the biggest dance studios in the country. The aim of Move It is to celebrate all forms of dance and performing arts and with several performance stages, workshops, stalls and dance programmes our onsite LED technician Sam McCrea certainly had plenty to do!

High Resolution 3.9mm Exhibition LED Screen Solution

LSC Move It 2017 LED Screen 1

Using our high resolution digiLED Indoor 3.9mm LED Panels, we provided a 5.5m x 3m LED Screen that was built on our LED ground support system mounted on a Litedeck stage. As well as providing the screen, playback and lighting solutions were also catered for. The kit was loaded in the day before the event and the screen went up quickly – under 4 hours from loading in to completion. A pair of Nova MCTRL660 Processors were used to manage the data being fed to the screen with one acting as a fail safe hot back up to the main processor with a redundant cable route. Scaling for the screen was handled through the Barco ImagePRO II Dual which had no trouble showing LSC’s promotional videos and other media content that was being cued and ran through our Apple Macbook Pro and PlaybackPro software. Four Source 4 Junior Profiles were positioned above the screen on a discreet truss structure and provided a fixed lighting state so members of the dance community had a space in the exhibition to learn what London Studio Centre was all about.

LSC Move It 2017 LED Screen 2

The event was a massive success, with LSC able to use the LED screen to reveal all the amazing talented they have curated in their studio in the most eye catching way possible. We’d like to thank London Studio Centre for choosing us to provide the video and lighting solution for your exhibition and we hope to back working with you for Move It 2018 to show another great year of dance and performing arts.

Using our stock of digiLED HRi3900 Indoor 3.9mm LED Panels, we built a 10m x 3m LED screen as well as providing full processing and playback support using our Barco screen management system. Travelling over with the kit to Belfast the day before, the Production AV team were began the load in early next morning and had the screen built into it’s custom set and operational in three hours. A pair of Nova MCTRL660 Processors were used to manage the data being fed to the screen with one acting as a fail safe back up to the main processor. For playback, our Barco S3-4k Screen Management System along with it’s counterpart the Barco EC50 Event Controller ensured that we could output a range of feeds including Keynote presentations, camera feeds and a twitter stream to the LED screen which provided flawless motion to the conference and allowed the UUP to focus completely on laying out plans to do what’s right for Northern Ireland in 2017 and onwards.

The event was a great success and we really enjoyed working alongside BNL to make sure this important event had the best production quality possible. Cheltenham Lit Fest 2016 Banner
Having worked with Cheltenham Festivals on the annual Literature Festival for the last five years, Production AV were looking forward to being back for a sixth year providing the video solution to all the venues at the festival. From the 7th – 16th of October, Cheltenham Literature Festival promised to continue delivering an inspiring mix of debate and discussion by welcoming over 600 of the world’s greatest writers, poets, politicians, thinkers and stars to Cheltenham.

In Forum, the main venue of the festival, Production AV provided a full video solution using a our Barco S3-4K Screen Management System coupled with its Barco EC-50 Controller   which enabled us to manage numerous signals and outputting them to our Christie LHD700 Full HD Projector via a fibre system. Situated in front of house, three Sony PMW-EX3 HD Video Cameras provided numerous angles for the technical director to select during each event and one camera operator worked back stage controlling the two close up cameras using a pan tilt remote head system which enabled less intrusive production and greater communication between the technical team. The Barco S3-4K, also accommodated two laptops and was able to seamlessly switch between keynote and powerpoint presentations as well as raising the production quality by providing PIP’s of the camera feed when desired over presentations. The last output required from the Barco S3 was to the LG BD370 Blu-ray Player that recorded certain events for later use. Also provided for the guests was the Interspace MasterCue V6 Cueing System and comfort monitors leaving guests with the peace of mind that they can easily manage their presentation.

In The Pillar Rooms, the venue was more intimate and required a smaller technical setup. The main operating hardware was a Barco PDS-901 3G 9 in 1 Out Seamless Switcher that took feeds from two ASUS X555LA 15 Inch Laptops and outputted to an in-house projector as well as another LG BD370 Blu-ray Player for recording purposes. Comfort monitors and another MasterCue System was also set up in this venue to improve the presenting experience.

Working with Adrian Hensley and the team at Cheltenham Festivals is always a pleasure and getting to play our part in providing this yearly gathering of people with fantastic intellect as well as fascinating stories is always near the top of yearly event experiences! We would like to thank Adrian and the team for continuing this relationship between our companies into it’s sixth year and we hope it continues as it is such a rewarding and enjoyable event to be apart of each year.

Seasick Steve Wembley Arena LED Screen Solution

Production AV were delighted to continue working with Crosstown on behalf of Seasick Steve to provide a full video solution for his biggest ever headline show at the SSE Arena, Wembley. Having previously been the video supplier for Steve in his UK 2015 tour, we were looking forward to being back for his ‘10 Years Out Of The Dog House’ party that was promising great crowd atmosphere and funky guitar work!

Seasick Steve 6mm LED Screen Solution - Wembley Arena

Using our stock of Desay 6.25mm Indoor/Outdoor LED Panels, we built a 9.6m x 5.3m LED screen that was flown at the rear of the stage. As we were providing the full video solution, two Sony HXC-100 HD Camera Channels and a Sony PMW-EX3 HD Video Camera were positioned around the venue with the aim of taking the production quality to a new height with multiple live feeds running to screen. Control was set up in front of house and the live feed management was run using our Panasonic AV-HS400 Vision Mixer Portable Production Unit (PPU). Two Nova MCTRL660 Processors were used to manage the screen with one being set up to act as a redundant backup to the main processor. Scaling for the screen was handled by a Barco ImagePRO II Dual – industry standard due to it’s great processing.

Seasick Steve 6mm LED Screen Solution Alt Angle - Wembley Arena

The concert went exceptionally well, with the screen performing perfectly throughout the evening and our skilled camera operators not missing a moment of the exciting evening. Seasick Steve had an amazing performance, bringing people up on stage to sing with him made it a real party atmosphere and he managed to turn the arena into the most intimate venue. He also didn’t let his eccentric reputation lessen as he turned up to the venue driving a tractor! Production AV filmed Steve’s arrival at the iconic venue for playback on the LED screen, as well as introductions for the support acts.

It has once again been a real pleasure working with Steve and his team and we’d like to take a moment just to thank them for selecting us to provide the video solution for this performance. We hope that we’ll be back in Spring for his next one!

Alongside the processors was a Barco ImagePRO II Dual which was used to feed content to the screen. The screen was securely positioned with stage weights acting as a ballast but as an act of precaution, we set up an anemometer that was used to monitor wind speeds.

Film-lovers were be able to see firm family favourites on the wide screen such as Despicable Me, Inside Out and Guardians of the Galaxy. People were able to meet friends, pack a picnic, popcorn, seats, blanket or rug and get an afternoon, evening or weekend’s entertainment for free. It was a very rewarding event to be apart of and we would like to thank SFL for selecting us as screen provider and hope to be back for the next outdoor cinema screen solution!

Production AV were appreciative to once again work for long term client Tarren Production Ltd by providing a complete video solution using LED screens, flat panel displays, HD camera feeds and screen management systems. The main centerpiece of the event were our DigiLED 3.9mm LED Panels. We built two 4.5m x 2.5m LED walls on either side of the stage. These screens were used to showcase content that expressed the evolution of Superdry’s aspirational design story, offering essential items for everyday fitness as well as capsule collections for Athleisure, Yoga, Gym, Running and Cycle.

Positioned to capture the catwalk was a Sony PMW-EX3 Video Camera which fed live video to a Samsung ME65B 65″ Flat Panel Display which the models used as reference for their cues throughout the show. Playback of Powerpoints and keynotes were also displayed on screen for numerous talks by members of the Superdry team and brand ambassadors. All content was managed and switched by pairing the Barco EC-50 Event Controller with the Barco S3-4K Screen Management System which functioned flawlessly throughout the event.

Again we’d like to thank Tarren Production Ltd and Superdry for choosing us to provide the screen and video management for this event. We look forward to working on more successful events in the future.

Bristol Harbourside – Grillstock 2016

11/08/2016 by petermccrea

Production AV were delighted to be selected to provide the LED screen for the main stage at Grillstock 2016 by Utopium.  It is safe to say we were very much looking forward to this event with the promise of sunshine, good music and a variety of delicious meats to consume! Being hosted at the Bristol Harbourside meant that it was a only a quick drive down and we were happy to be involved in a such a local but fun event.

Grillstock Festival 6mm LED Screen Solution

Grillstock 6mm LED Screen

Loading in the day before the event began, using our Desay 6.25mm LED Panels we built a 6.4m x 3.4m screen at the back of the main stage. The screen was flown on a motorised truss system and was rigged quickly which allowed other preparations for the stage go unhindered. Set up on stage right were two Nova MCTRL660 Processors that were used to manage the screen with one being set up to act as a backup to the main processor. Alongside the Novastars was an ImagePRO II Dual which was used to feed content to the screen. Running a 100M fibre cable from the ImagePRO to control meant that Olie Goulding our onsite technician could position himself at front of house. This was important as he also was operating the Green Hippo Grasshopper Media Server which meant he could add layers and effects over the top of the content being fed to screen which allowed him to quickly match the screen content to the style of lighting the LD had decided on.

Grillstock 6mm LED Screen Flown

More than 14,000 people attended the BBQ-themed festival, with highlights including The Fratellis, The Stranglers, Cuban Brothers and a King of the Grill barbeque showdown. When the final band artist had performed, Production AV were there and ready to take down the screen with the same swiftness they had put it up. Using the onsite telehandler, we were able to fork down boxes of LED modules directly from front of stage onto the floor and load the truck from there. Having video kit off stage meant that a lot of space was freed up and Utopium were able to bring their lighting truss down and work with ease on pulling their kit out too.

A massive thank you to Utopium for selecting us as screen supplier for this event. It is always a pleasure working in your company. We hope to be back next year for more BBQ goodness!

As part of the SFL Group, Production AV supplied the LED screen to the Royal Albert Hall for José Carreras in his first headline appearance since 2008 to premiere A Life in Music. Using our Desay 6.25mm LED panels, we built a 12m x 2.7m screen that was flown above José and his performing orchestra as the centre piece for Carreras to visually tell his incredible life in music story.

Arriving for an early load in at 7am, the Production AV team had the screen fully rigged and operational by 10:30am which allowed the sound technicians free access to setup the orchestra’s positions. Two Nova MCTRL660 Processors were used to manage the screen with one being set up to act as a backup to the main processor. Control was set up a floor below the stage where an ImagePro II Dual was used to feed content to the screen. The show was in the evening and a technician was on site the entire time monitoring the screens which worked perfectly throughout. Below is an audience member’s picture of the special night.

Our thanks to SFL for choosing us as the LED Supplier and we look forward to the next time the Royal Albert Hall needs an audiovisual solution.

Ecclesiastical Group Leadership Conference 2016

14/03/2016 by petermccrea

Production AV were pleased to once again be chosen as the sole supplier to Ecclesiastical’s annual Group Leadership Conference. With previous years conference’s utilising a simple screen and projector with drape surround, the decision was taken to undertake a massive step up in the visual impact of the event and enhance the narrative of the numerous speakers throughout the day.

3.9mm LED Video Wall Conference Solution

Using our stock of DigiLED 3.9mm LED Panels, Production AV created a 7m x 2.5m LED Video Wall as the focal point of the conference. The 3.9mm LED Wall sat on it’s own ground support; raising it above the presenters stage for improved viewing. Throughout the event it worked seamlessly for numerous speakers with their own unique content requirements. The high brightness of the screen meant that the room could be well lit and the curtains remain open allowing the views out over the lakes to remain and be enjoyed by the delegates.

Using Keynote and Powerpoint, content was fed from various laptops provided by Production AV. Live video was also run directly onto screen coming from a Sony EX3 HD Video Camera positioned at stage right. All the source switching was handled by a Barco S3-4K switching system set up backstage with the Barco EC-50 controller allowing for easy recall of previously stored scenes.

Relay Flatscreens and Breakout Rooms

Alongside the large 3.9mm LED video screen, two pairs of Samsung 65″ Flat Panels were provided to ensure the delegates could clearly see the content in the long thin room. The four screens were set out on Unicol Parabella Stands along the length of the room in order to stop any loss of clarity for those sat further back.

In addition to the main session space, multiple breakout spaces were also provided with a mix of 50″ and 42″ Panasonic Plasma Screens to enable clear communications.

Sound and Lighting for Complete Conference Solution

As Production AV were providing the full conference solution, audio requirements were also covered in full. Sound was projected using a combination d&b E3 and QSub Loudspeakers driven by d&b D12 Amplifers. All the sources were mixed on the QU-32 Digital Mixer utilising the onboard dynamics and feeds to the various speaker sends. Sennheiser EW300 G3 Wireless Handheld and Lapel microphones were provided for the presenters during the day and also during the evening quiz. ETC Source 4 Junior Lanterns and Miltec LED Batten 2’s were also used to great effect throughout the event in creating the relaxed atmosphere aimed to be achieved throughout the conference.

All the equipment was rigged during the load in on the afternoon before the event, with a fairly typical schedule of rehearsals in the morning then moving through the conference sessions and into the evening dinner and quiz, to a post event load out handled by our experienced team of event professionals and led by our in house project manager.

A big thank you to Ecclesiastical for choosing to work with us on the show and we look forward to working together in the future.
